We cannot tell you what the accurate number is, but the statistic is a two-edged sword.  Stated plainly, we assert,

Some property owners that list their property with a real estate company end up selling personally (FSBO) and some property owners that try to sell their property personally end up selling through a real estate company.  It goes both ways.

The way things are stated can make one believe something that is untrue, unless they have developed good critical thinking skills.  For example, as we were doing our research in the real estate market and in FSBO in particular, we discovered the use of the phrase "private sale" to be used collectively for ALL FSBO sales.  This improperly colors what FSBO really accomplishes.

What is a "private" sale?  Would it not be the opposite of a "public" sale.  The suggestion of a FSBO being a private sale is that it is a listing that is not publicy advertised, which is obviously not correct.
